We are seeking an experienced Safety Manager in Western Sydney to lead safety compliance, drive a strong safety culture, and support audits, reporting, and return-to-work programs across a major civil construction project.

Seymour Whyte is a successful civil contracting business who has been operating in Australia for over 35 years. With the agility and personal connection of a Tier 2, yet the expertise of a Tier 1, and the enhanced resources of one of the largest, world-class construction companies, VINCI, our employees and clients get the best of three worlds.

As a progressive, leading civil engineering firm built on the strong foundations of our unique history, we engage, enable and empower our people to be better. With you, we are altogether stronger, in building the future we want.

About the project:

Seymour Whyte is proud to be delivering a major infrastructure project in Western Sydney that plays a key role in supporting the region’s growing transport network. With a strong focus on engineering excellence, stakeholder collaboration, and minimising community disruption, Seymour Whyte continues to build infrastructure that enhances liveability and drives long-term benefits for the Western Sydney region.

The primary objective of the Project Safety Manager is to lead by example in managing safety risks, ensuring compliance with SWC policies, legislation, and client requirements, while promoting a positive, best-practice safety culture across the project.

About the Role:

  • Ensure compliance with all Seymour Whyte policies, client requirements, and relevant legislation, while maintaining up-to-date knowledge of industry standards and innovations.
  • Lead and promote a strong safety culture by mentoring site personnel, championing SWC safety initiatives, and supporting continuous improvement across projects.
  • Support project safety systems through the development, implementation, and maintenance of safety plans, procedures, audits, and external certifications.
  • Provide timely safety advice to Project Managers and teams, including risk assessments, incident investigations, and reporting, while identifying opportunities for improvement.
  • Coordinate return-to-work programs and liaise with internal and external stakeholders to support safe, transparent, and compliant project delivery.

About you:

  • Extensive industry experience, with a minimum of 10 years in civil construction or a related field, and proven ability to lead safety teams or manage health and safety operations.
  • Formal qualifications including a minimum Diploma in OHS, auditing credentials, and relevant certifications such as ICAM, Return to Work Coordination, First Aid, and Emergency Response.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with a team-first approach and the ability to build rapport across all levels—site crews, management, clients, and auditors.
  • Technical competencies including sound knowledge of safety legislation and principles, incident investigation, workplace training (Cert IV), and traffic and high-risk work certifications.
  • Digital literacy, with intermediate skills in Microsoft Office Suite and experience using digital tools to support safety reporting, documentation, and training.

Company Benefits:

  • Health & Wellbeing – discounted health insurance, seasonal vaccinations, wellness discounts, fertility benefit and employee assistance program (EAP).
  • Time for life / Work life balance – birthday leave, purchased leave program, paid parental leave and flexible work arrangements.
  • Financial wellbeing – competitive remuneration, annual performance bonuses, salary continuance insurance and employee share program.
  • Career development – training, mentoring programs, and leadership development program.
