We are a successful civil contracting business who has been operating in Australia for over 35 years. With the agility and personal connection of a Tier 2, yet the expertise of a Tier 1, and the enhanced resources of one of the largest, world-class construction companies, VINCI, our employees and clients get the best of three worlds.
As a progressive, leading civil engineering firm built on the strong foundations of our unique history, we engage, enable and empower our people to be better. With you, we are altogether stronger in building the future we want.
Come on board as a Safety Coordinator within our Safety team and become a vital contributor to an exhilarating project at Melbourne Airport. The Tullamarine Freeway is undergoing a two-stage enhancement to streamline access to all four terminals, eliminating roundabouts and traffic lights for a seamless exit.
We’re after a Safety Coordinator who’s passionate about creating safer work environments and supporting teams on-site. In this role, you’ll help drive a strong safety culture by working closely with project teams, conducting site inspections, assisting with incident investigations, mentoring staff, and making sure everything we do meets Seymour Whyte’s safety standards and legislative requirements. If you enjoy being hands-on, solving problems, and making sure everyone gets home safely, this is the role for you!
About the role:
- Ensure Compliance and Training: Understand and stay current with all Seymour Whyte policies, procedures, and compliance training relevant to your role.
- Enhance Site Health and Safety: Mentor site personnel to improve safety standards and conduct site inspections, providing actionable feedback and recommendations.
- Support Project Management: Assist Project Managers in developing and maintaining safety systems, procedures, and strategies while managing risks and opportunities for safety improvements.
- Investigate Incidents and Provide Corrective Actions: Conduct investigations into accidents and incidents, advising on corrective actions to prevent reoccurrences.
- Promote a Strong Safety Culture: Foster a transparent, proactive safety culture on-site and ensure compliance with up-to-date legislation, industry standards, and technological innovations.
The successful applicant will have the following skills and experience:
- Demonstrate a passionate, energetic approach to safety with a positive, team-first attitude, working collaboratively with others.
- Hold a Certificate IV in OHS and other key certifications, such as Workplace Rehabilitation and Return to Work Coordinator Certification, First Aid, and Emergency Response Training.
- Have 3+ years of experience in a similar role within the Civil/Construction industry, along with strong knowledge of plant operations, safety principles, and the ability to effectively engage with site staff and management.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Current C-Class Driver’s Licence.
We have a range of additional benefits available for our employees:
- Health & Wellbeing – discounted health insurance, seasonal vaccinations, wellness discounts, fertility benefit and employee assistance program (EAP).
- Time for life / Work life balance – birthday leave, purchased leave program, paid parental leave and flexible work arrangements.
- Financial wellbeing – competitive remuneration, annual performance bonuses, salary continuance insurance and employee share program.
- Career development – training, mentoring programs, and leadership development program.
Many of our projects are located in regional areas, therefore, all applicants must hold a current Driver’s Licence and have their own transport.
