We have opportunities for Surveying students to join us. In engineering, surveyors are responsible for ensuring that construction projects are built according to design plans and specifications. You will perform measurements and establish control points to guide the construction process and verify the final as-built position.

This is your chance to gain hands-on experience on major civil infrastructure projects, developing the skills and knowledge required to become an experienced Engineering Surveyor. Following on, we provide a clear pathway towards becoming a Senior Surveyor or Survey Manager.

We will provide opportunities to learn and be mentored by our experienced Survey Team and to personally undertake surveys. Our aim is to ensure you gain enough experience and expertise to apply for:

  • Certified Engineering Surveyor certification with GCA, or
  • Registered Surveyor registration with SBQ.

Many of our projects are located in regional areas, therefore, all applicants must hold a current Driver’s Licence and have their own transport.

Key areas you will develop expertise in include:

  • Engineering surveying for motorways and bridges.
  • Establishing and maintaining survey control.
  • Implementing survey monitoring systems.
  • Using terrestrial and aerial scanners.
  • Deploying and operating UAVs on construction sites.
  • Reading and interpreting specifications, standards, design drawings, and design models.
  • Preparing as-constructed reports.
  • Performing survey calculations for various team requirements.
  • Utilising quality systems.
  • Conducting engineering surveys in real-world environments.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Calibrate instruments to meet Quality Assurance requirements.
  • Undertake surveys in the field, initially under supervision, progressing to independent work as skills develop.
  • Prepare as-constructed reports, initially under supervision, and then independently as competency increases.
  • Upload data to field machines, either in person or through cloud services, ensuring accuracy and timely delivery.
  • Download and process your own field data for further use by the Survey Manager or Data Manager.
  • Follow data management protocols and procedures to ensure proper handling, storage, and sharing of survey data.
  • Seek clarification and ask questions if uncertain about any aspect of tasks, procedures, or project requirements.
  • Collect evidence and documentation for your work portfolio, supporting future registration and certification.

The following key selection criteria relate to this position:

  • Minimum AQF Level 5 Diploma in Surveying from a recognised institution.
  • An AQF Level 7 Bachelor's Degree is required for progression to Survey Manager or Registered Surveyor roles.
  • Proficiency in computer and smartphone use, including Windows and Office 365 Excel.
  • Fundamental understanding of CAD software, 2D and 3D drafting and modelling.
  • Solid grasp of core concepts and principles of surveying software.
  • Exposure to and understanding of total stations and GNSS receivers.
  • Willingness to learn and adapt to established procedures.
